All Good Things

Drew, my oldest son, is autistic.  He didn't speak much until he was four, and then it was still a struggle.  We have worked very hard with him over the past 10 years, and he has become a regular inspirational movie hero.  Overcoming obstacles.  Doing the undoable.  Amazing everyone in his path.

On Tuesday, we were driving to karate, and he said, "You know, Mom, all of the bad things that happen turn out in the end to be for a good reason."

I teared up.

"You're right!  It's true.  The Bible says that God used ALL things to work together for the good of those who love Him.  So, when people do mean things, or bad things happen, God uses that to bring good into our lives and to bring glory to Himself."

"Yeah,"  Drew said.  Then we discussed the meaning of the idiom, "Every cloud has a silver lining."  We discuss idioms a lot.  Drew is very literal and very mathematical.  This makes idioms a challenge.  So, we talk about them a good bit, just for reference.

Then, Drew went to karate class and earned his green belt!  We are so proud of him and his hard work!  What an awesome kid!
